Farewell to XC

Funny how people don't realize how much they liked something until
they will never do it again. I used to say I disliked XC and loved
track to death, but now that it's over...What am I going to do next
fall? Even though my career was long and fruitful, I cannot but
reminesce over what has happened. It's interesting to note that my
first XC meet was on District 7th Grade on Monday. My last XC meet was
District 5 years later on a Monday. I still remember how I got 13th and
was proud. Back in those days I had no running power--whatsoever. Coach
Madrid took me out of pity, i guess. I never was all that great in XC,
even when I got District Champ. Freshman, our team (Angel, Javi, my
brother, Sammy, Gee, Ben, and me the only non senior) was ranked third
in state. Sophomore i was district champ. Junior, district runner up
and a 16:16. Senior...um...a slow summer and a race to get in shape got
me. But still, I miss it. already.
All change is for good, though. Next fall, I probably won't be suiting up, lacing my shoes, stretching, but i will be walking the sacred halls of knowledge in college, and i know ill never forget the races, early morning practices with spiders (if you read this far and you ran with me, you understand...lol) and most of all, the people. People who all complain, run, and want food....people from other skools and our own....People who made going to these the fun part, the part I will miss.
Good bye, XC.
